Shotokan Karate ( The way of the empty hand ) originally developed in
Okinawa, Japan. It was demonstrated for the first time in 1916 in Kyoto
(Tokyo) . A second demonstration was performed in Tokyo in 1922. Karate-do
was introduced to the U.S. in 1950's until the present day.

The founder of this style of karate is Ginchin Funakoshi. His teaching
philosophy was to learn a few techniques the right way. It is not use if you
know 50 different techniques and not effective against an attacker that
knows a few techniques correctly and effective. The techniques of
Shotokan are based on a stable stance with thrusting movements that
increase power.

"The main aim in the art of karate is neither winning nor
losing; it is  improvement of the character."
